web.18HtmlCodeOnce you’ve got your site uploaded to your web host there will come a time when you’d like to add pages, or simply make changes to your website. This poses a problem to those of us not well versed in the not so ancient arts of HTML or PHP. You need to make some tweaks, but find yourself lost when it comes to wading through the code to do so. Worse yet, the times you’ve tried to do it have left your pages a mess, and that simply won’t do. Here I’ll describe some of the solutions to your editing problems.

The first and most obvious solution is to learn to do it yourself. Most people pick up these languages little by little, as they need it. There are innumerable tutorials and helps all over the Web, and if you find yourself in need of bits and pieces of code you can easily find them with a bit of digging.

You might just need a snippet here and there, and before you know it, you’ll have acquired a knowledge base that has grown beyond the basic, and you’ll be able to do more than you had ever thought you could.

Another good source of help along these lines are webmaster forums, where you will find many who have gone before you and are more than willing to give you a leg up. I have asked and received many times (for free) the exact codes and solutions I needed to render the page exactly as I wanted it.

The second solution is rather dependent on your web host, and whether or not there is a what-you-see-is-what-you-get (WYSIWYG) editor on your hosting package. Most have these. They will get the job done, usually in an efficient manner. They are usually no more difficult to navigate than a typical word processing program. You simply choose the elements you desire, place them where you’d like them and you’re good to go!

web.18UnderConstructionIf you absolutely cringe at the thought of undertaking the task of making changes to your site’s code, then you should look into hiring someone to do it for you. Outsourcing this sort of task is extremely easy, and usually very affordable. You can find oodles of talented people willing to perform your task at various internet marketing forums and marketplaces, such as Elance, DigitalPoint, SitePoint and the Warrior Forum.

You can also outsource the tasks to talented technicians overseas. Good, competent help can be found in the Philippines, India and Romania to name but some of the top countries where you’ll find outstanding tech help. You will find someone to get it done fast, and at a good price.

Making changes to your website requires a bit of savvy on your web hosting control panel, and then the ability to make the changes themselves. Any of these three solutions will help you get the job done. Just remember: knowing how to understand some web page code is a good thing!
