If you find yourself with a large amount of websites, or you’re thinking of web hosting as a business venture, then you need to look closely at a segment of the web hosting universe called reseller hosting.

Reseller hosting is still shared hosting, but there are far fewer clients on your server, as you and a few others have all the space. The primary benefit of reseller hosting is the amount of control you have over your sites, and the ability to host a large number of them in one place.

If you are a niche marketer or affiliate marketer, this can be very advantageous for you, as it will allow you keep tabs on things rather easily. All of the domains will be found on your control panel, and you’ll be able to see what’s going on without having to bounce all over the Web.

All of this can be done for a rather nominal fee, as well. If you were to have a hosting account for each site you put up, it would soon become prohibitively expensive. This way you can manage costs along with your virtual real estate empire.

You might well ask the question, “Why should I opt for a reseller account when I can get unlimited space, bandwidth and domains with a regular hosting account?” Here’s why: first of all there’s always a limit; they just don’t expect you to get there. Secondly, start using a ton of bandwidth on a shared account and see how fast they slow you down (also known as “cpu throttling”) and attempt to move you to a bigger plan.

Also, many times the “unlimited” feature as it pertains to domains means that they are many times merely “add-on” domains, meaning that the site you signed up with is the main domain, and the add-on domains are essentially sub-domains of that one. There are ways to disguise this, but don’t for a minute think you’ll fool the search engines.

Another concern can be the same IP address for all your sites. If you are not connecting your sites in any way whatsoever, then you have no worries. However, if you were trying to create a network for SEO benefit, you’ll be found out fairly easily. You can, however, purchase additional IP addresses to use in your account very cheaply.

If you are going to go into web hosting big time, though, there will come a time when you’ll want have your own dedicated servers and exercise more control. In the beginning, however, a reseller plan works just fine.

Reseller web hosting can be a good answer for a budding virtual real estate mogul, or also for someone who’d like to offer web hosting as a way to make some extra cash. There are several good hosts out there who offer reseller plans. Get some recommendations and check them out!
