In this day and age of social media madness, it’s practically suicidal to be left out of the conversation in your market. You can be sure that others in your space won’t be making that mistake, so congratulations on making that crucial step toward improving your branding efforts, whether it be for you personally, your business, or both! Every day you lose is revenue down the drain. So let’s take a look at some of the things you’ll need to have foremost on your mind as you go about branding.
First of all is to have a constant push toward brand awareness. This can take several different forms, depending on whether it’s you or your business. Take the opportunity to talk about your business whenever you can, but not in a hypey, salesy manner. Explain what it’s done for you, how the experience has stretched you, the intrinsic benefits, and how it has changed you for the better. Don’t simply talk about the money and how great it is (especially if it isn’t that great for you yet!) but get them to make a connection with your challenges, and just maybe they’ll see something of themselves that they can relate to.
Building trust with your prospects and website visitors is more important than ever before. When everywhere you turn there’s a salesperson pitching you, you need to strive to become that oasis in a sea of swirling pitchmen, where they can find opinions and resources they can trust. So how do you do that?
The best way is to overdeliver value. A very smart man once said that you can get anything you want in life if you’ll help others get what they want. This has never been more true. Offer freebies, and not just some cheap ebook you got as a bonus from some other cheesy marketing product. Create and give away items that have real value to your market. You will know what that is. You were looking for it yourself not that long ago! Offer solutions in your content, whether it’s on your blog or site, or if you are posting in a forum, or on another blog. This does not go unnoticed, and soon you’ll begin to develop a reputation as the go-to guy in your space, and the one people turn to for solutions and answers to their problems. When that happens, you’re on your way!
Be consistent: don’t offer up a flurry of activity, and then disappear for months. Be there, and be available. Make it easy for others to find you. Make sure you have an email for this purpose (not your personal email) and that you’re in there daily. Make use of social networks, but not to the extent of making it your life’s work. Don’t frequent every one, just the ones that make the most sense for you.
Put your brand out there in every form you can think of. Use social media, videos, podcasts, guest posts and articles, press releases and more. Make sure your info is prominently visible on your offline business cards, and anywhere else you have a presence.
Building a personal or business brand has never been easier. There are more tools for mass market dispersion than there have ever been, and to let this time pass by without taking advantage of it would be an epitaph for your business!
